Completely unique, historic Abbey in a beautiful location in the Corbieres on 32 Hectares of land.13th century, fortified Abbey, part of the building is classified as a "Monument Historique" with a tower, niches, watch tower, machicoulis, Chapel etc.. Much of the Abbey has been restored in the past 10 years including a large part of the roof plus bathrooms and WC's etc. The cloister surrounding the buildings was completely rebuilt 15 years ago along with renewal of three large wells to supply the property with water. This building has been used until recently as a home for monks and as a reception centre. It is divided into various dwellings and apartments for seasonal rental but equally can return to religious use or be used as a hotel or residential development as it is possible to build up to 7300m2 of livable space in total. The site was originally established in the 12th century by the Cistercians and was sold off in 1791 during the French Revolution. During the later 19th and 20th centuries the buildings were refurbished by the proprietor, Charles Lambert de Sainte Croix, who also developed the land for viticulture. The property was later acquired by the Benedictines and in 1994 a monastery was founded here as a priory of Fontgombault Abbey.
